Udaan Dubai, theatrical productions presents “Ek Shaam Manto ke Naam” play in Hindi taking place on September 17-19 at The Junction.

The Junction will see three short performances in Hindi written by Saadat Hasan Manto, who is well known for his writings on the Indian Partition. Having experienced several political changes followed by independence, he wrote satirical pieces and essays on many social and political topics. Udaan announces an evening of short plays, exploring different themes to display Manto’s satirical writings and views.

There are three short plays showcasing:
• Beemar (Sick)
Kumar, a cheerful young man who all of sudden fell sick. At the moment, there is no soul to help him and care about at home. However, a young male servant and Kumar’s friends decide to shower him with unsolicited advice. The story will take viewers to an unexpected finale.

• Khudkushi (Suicide)
It is a satirical short play about Khudkushi who has recently lost her love. And being inspired by Heer-Rajha’s legendary love story, she wants to join her lover in death. Followed by the visit of the spirit of Heer who tells real things about what happens “happily ever after”, Khudkushi may change her mind on all these romantic stories.

• Aao Akhbaar Padhein (Come, Let’s read the newspaper)
The Aao Akhbaar Padhein satirical play is one of the most acclaimed ones by the legendary writer. The story unfolds before World War II India was under British rule, and the world was going through many changes to maintain peace. Manto takes viewers to an intriguing dialogue around the Disarmament Conference, which will set new questions about security guarantee and peace the world.
